Meet the Musicians!

Eden Music and Arts is thrilled to present two groups of talented musicians that will perform Saturday, Sept. 10, at the 2022 Castro Valley Fall Festival:

  • Atrios, featuring the best of Latin Jazz and more; and

  • Siena String Quartet, with a fun setlist for the whole family.


ATRIOS LATIN JAZZ

Pat Klobas, Bass

Pat Klobas, Bass

Atrios band leader Pat Klobas is known in the San Francisco Bay Area as a first-call session bassist. Pat has shared the stage with jazz/R&B artists Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Rosemary Clooney, Michael Feinstein, Bruce Forman, and the American Jazz Philharmonic. His numerous Latin music shows and recordings include performances with Indian Master Tabla percussionist Zakir Hussain, Latin percussionist Pete Escovedo and steel drum virtuoso Andy Narell. Mr. Klobas performs regularly with the San Francisco Symphony Pops Orchestra rhythm section as well as the California Symphony Pops and the Sun Valley Summer Symphony Pops.

Pat leads two bands: One called the Klobas/Kesecker Ensemble, and Latin Jazz band Atrios, performing original compositions and arrangements throughout the Bay Area. Pat is also Adjunct Professor of Jazz and Classical Double Bass at California State University.

Wayne Fettig, Piano

In his early twenties pianist Wayne Fettig began a life-long commitment to the study and performance of jazz. For a period of eight years he studied piano technique and jazz theory with venerable pianist/teacher Dick Hindman (Stan Getz, Richie Cole, Manhattan Transfer). It was through Dick’s tutelage that Wayne began to develop maturity and proficiency as an artist.

Curt Moore, Drums

With 100’s of recordings to his credit, Curt has shared the recording studio and performance stage with a wide variety of artists. Some of these include: Francisco Aguabella, Count Baise Orchestra, Chuck Berry, Ray Brown, Joyce Cooling, John Clayton, Richard Davis, Pete Escovedo, Bruce Forman, Lola Falana, Vic Firth, Mimi Fox, Different Drums Percussion group, Scott Hamilton, Jimmy Haslip, Jimmy Heath, Jackie and Roy, Andy Narell, Patrick Palomo, Bernadette Peters, Rufus Reed, Francios Rabatth, San Jose Jazz Orchestra, Turtle Island String Quartet, Mike Galisatus Big Band, Long Meadow Ranch Allstar Big Band, San Jose Allstar Big Band. The most recent project is The Trio, a piano, bass, drums, group that has three different recordings to its credit.

Curt is the author and focus of a highly acclaimed instructional DVD on Afro-Cuban drumset techniques and styles entitled “Grooves you can use.” He maintains a fully active teaching schedule of private students, workshops, and clinics.


SIENA STRING QUARTET

Marcella Schantz, Violin

Marcella graduated with honors from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, and has performed in numerous genres: orchestra, opera, ballet, shows, recording, film appearances, pop, rock, backup and more. As a violinist, she performs regularly with many Bay Area orchestras, along with shows and recordings in the music, television and film industries.

In addition to a busy symphonic schedule, Marcella has performed with many recording artists, including Smokey Robinson, Mark O’Connor, Sheryl Crow, Michael McDonald, Randy Travis, Barry Manilow, The Manhattan Transfer, Burt Bacharach and Frank Sinatra, Jr., to name a few. She also performs with several smaller ensembles, including the Siena Music chamber ensembles, which she founded in 1999; and created original arrangements and performed with the electric string trio Cover Girl Strings, and the Craig Hansen Band. Music Festivals include 12 summers performing with the Britt Music & Arts Festival in Southern Oregon, and Music in the Mountains in Grass Valley, California.

Marcella founded Eden Music & Arts to feature and sponsor Eden-area musicians and artists from a variety of genres and mediums.

 

Allison Gigi Dang, Violin

Bay Area native Allison Gigi Dang began learning to play violin in the Berkeley Public Schools. After graduating from Berkeley High School, she attended Vassar College, UC Berkeley, and New England Conservatory, earning Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Linguistics; and a Bachelor of Music in Performance of Violin.

Formerly a member of the Sacramento Symphony, the San Jose Symphony and the Midsummer Mozart festival, she presently performs as a member of the Monterey Symphony and Symphony San Jose; plays strolling violin music, most often with the Starlite Strings; and chamber music, mostly as a member of the Oakhill Trio.

Private teachers have included Donna DeNeeve, Nathan Rubin, Jaime Laredo, Eric Rosenblith and Felix Khuner; chamber music coaches: the Manhattan string quartet, Janet Guggenheim, Adolf Baller and Leonard Shure.

 

Rebecca Gemmer, Viola

Rebecca Gemmer enjoys living on the coast in the Bay Area. Originally hailing from Nashville and the country music recording life, she found herself immersed, stuck in playing Broadway shows at the Curran, Orpheum and Golden Gate Theaters and numerous movie scores at Skywalker Ranch. She has also played in the SF Symphony, Opera and Ballet orchestras.

Some of her favorite experiences were playing in a string quartet for Van Morrison’s recording of and tour for ‘No Guru No Method No Teacher’ and recording with XTC, Journey, Aaron Neville and Linda Ronstadt. Currently Rebecca finds herself playing with Fremont Symphony Orchestra and various Bay Area opera companies. She is happy to take time off of practicing pinball to be part of the Siena String Quartet and Castro Valley Fall Festival!

 

Joshua Mikus-Mahoney, Cello

Joshua is a Bay Area native and professional freelance Cellist that can be heard at various venues throughout the greater Bay Area. Joshua’s first love is Musical Theater; most recently, he was Principal Cellist for the World Premier of Berkeley Repertory Theater’s production of Swept Away where he originated the Cello chair. Joshua is the Principal Cellist for multiple local theater companies including Broadway by the Bay, Contra Costa Musical Theater, Center Repertory Company, and Lucky Penny Productions. As a Recording artist Joshua can be heard on the debut single Even After by Charlie Mitchell and the Broadway By the Bay Holiday albums Home For The Holidays (featured soloist) and All Is Bright.

A classically trained Cellist, Joshua sits Assistant Principal Cellist with the Fremont Symphony and is often requested to sit in with other of the professional Bay Area Symphonies. In addition to symphonic and theater work, Joshua plays with local Chamber and Solo performance artists.

Mr. Mikus-Mahoney holds a Master of Music Degree in Cello Performance from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Music Degree in Cello Performance from Chapman University.
